Meuse Clean Up Package
Will you also help make the Meuse (Maas) cleaner?
During periods of high water levels—after heavy rain or melting snow in the Ardennes—litter floating in the Meuse is deposited along the banks. Trash also accumulates around bridges, gravel banks, and small islands in the river. Litter that does not remain on these riverbanks can wash through the river mouth into the sea, with devastating consequences for marine life, biodiversity, and water quality.
To jointly work toward a cleaner Meuse and cleaner riverbanks, RivierPark Maasvallei has joined forces with the kayak rental companies in the Meuse Valley. They offer their customers a free Maas Clean-Up Package. Companies, schools, groups, or individuals who choose this package are provided—at no cost—with a litter grabber, a trash bag, and gloves, so they can collect litter during their kayak trip along the Meuse. The collected litter will be collected afterwards.
