Cycling in RivierPark Maasvallei

As you cycle through RivierPark Maasvallei, the unique charm and character of the area quickly become apparent. The winter dikes are car-free, allowing you to ride uninterrupted for miles while taking in the stunning views. It’s no surprise that Meuse Valley is the top destination for cycling tourists!

The various Meuse villages make an ideal starting point for a bike ride through the RivierPark. There is always (ample) parking, and nearby tourist information offices provide cycling maps and detailed information about the area.  You’ll also find e-bike charging stations conveniently located close to the starting points.

Cycling route network

With the extensive cycling route networks in Belgium and the Netherlands, you can easily plan your own route using numbered junctions, signposted in both directions. This allows you to choose your own direction and set the length of your ride. The networks connect seamlessly across the border. The system is the same in both countries; only the colours differ —in Belgium, you follow blue signs, and in the Netherlands, green.

Ferry timetable

During your ride, consider taking a ferry across the Meuse. There are four ferry crossings available to cyclists. Three are for bicycles and pedestrians, while one larger ferry also accommodates cars. Keep in mind that the bicycle ferries operate only in the summer months (May – October). Before you set off, please check the ferry timetable.

A useful tool for planning your ride is the cross-border cycling map of the Meuse Valley River Park (3 euros). This map includes all the information you need for a perfect cycling trip along the Meuse, such as suggested routes, dining options, charging points and details on the ferries. It’s available in both Dutch and German.

You can purchase the cycling map at tourist information offices or through the Wandelen in Limburg webshop.
