Geulle aan de Maas

About the village

Geulle, named after the River Geul, is situated where the river flows toward its confluence with the Meuse at Voulwammes. In the Middle Ages, Geulle belonged to the Abbey of Kornelimünster, likely a gift from Emperor Louis the Pious when he founded the abbey in 817. A railway was constructed near the village in 1865, and the Julian Canal was dug between 1925 and 1934, both transforming the surrounding landscape. Today, Geulle is a charming riverside village where nature plays an integral role.
